Himachal plans to get Kullu shawls patented

The Himachal Pradesh government plans to get Kullu shawls patented to protect the rights of the local weavers, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said here Tuesday.

He said such steps would help safeguard economic interests of the craftsmen engaged in the making of shawls and other handmade products, an official release said.

The chief minister said there were many craftsmen in the rural areas who needed to be identified.

The hill state is known for many traditional products like Kullu shawl, Chamba 'rumaal' (handkerchief) and Kangra tea.
